YouGen online brand preview

As part of their on going development YouGen have put some sample screens online, to show the work in progress. When complete the website will act as a hub for businesses and individuals interested in renewable energy solutions. Businesses will be able to create a profile for themselves, listing the services they offer, and include testimonials from happy customers. Take a look at a sample. Individuals can also create profiles and list the technologies they're interested in, as you can see on this sample. (Both the samples are just static pages, so no links work yet).

We have worked closely with Optix Solutions to develop the online brand, supplying the various grahics and icons you can see on the samples, and developing the colour palette. To learn a bit more about our work with YouGen, take a look at this previous post.

What is your brand and why is it valuable?

I tried to answer this question in a short presentation to the East Devon Business Club yesterday lunchtime. What did I say? Read on...

What is your brand? Well, it's a collection of views and opinions about your business. I heard a great description recently: Your brand is what people say about you when you leave the room. I describe it to clients as the personality of their business; the thing that makes them different from their competitors.

Why is it valuable? Two reasons. Firstly, it will help you to win new business. Secondly, it will help you to keep your existing customers. There are a number of challenges that businesses may face when they're trying to find more customers. For some it's a case of trying to raise their profile and get noticed. For others it's a need to look different from their competitors, so that potential clients look at them first. Many companies struggle to position themselves so that they can reach their target market.

For businesses who want to hang on to their existing customers it's all about loyalty. Your brand is the key tool in creating loyalty in your customers. But the first step to loyalty is consistency - and that's consistency in every area of your business.

There's a lot more to say, so if you'd like to know more about your brand and what it can do for your business, email jonathan@alderandalder.co.uk. To see some examples of what we've done for our clients visit www.alderandalder.co.uk.

My favourite advert (at the moment)

I really like the current Audi ad for the Q5 - Unbox the box. It looks really simple, but I imagine it took lots of clever computer trickery to get the final effect. And did they really build a full size version out of cardboard, or is it just CGI?

It's a bit like the Skoda ad for the Fabia, where they make the car out of cake - but that was real. They had a team of model makers and bakers working together on it. There was a really interesting article in Creative Review about it, talking to the guy who got the whole thing together. I can't find that online, but I have found a link that lists the ingredients used to make it!

On the subject of car ads I've got to mention the Honda ads, which are consistently great. I found a link to the one with all the parts, like a giant version of the 'Mousetrap' boardgame, which is still fascinating (and it was all 'real', no animation or editing). Take a look.

National Snow Day

This was our walk home from the childminder today. William really wasn't too impressed with the snow... Me and Charlie were a lot more excited. He just wanted to go home.
