Your brand is all about leaving an impression behind. Making a mark on your audience. Do you always leave the impression you want?
The origin of the word 'brand' comes from an Old Norse word, 'brandt', meaning to burn. Burning a mark or symbol onto livestock was a method of proving ownership. When livestock were sold at market, those animals with a reputation for quality would be most sought after and command a higher price, so people would look for animals bearing the mark they wanted. So the value of a brand was born.
The tool used to make the impression was a called a brand. And so was the mark left on the animals hide. We may use far more sophisticated tools to do the job today, but the principle is the same: Your brand is a tool to leave an impression on your audience. Your brand is also the impression you leave behind.
The point of this Brand Tip isn't the bitesize history lesson, but a reminder of the role of your brand: A tool to leave an impression on your audience. Do you use it as effectively as possible? What impression did you leave on your audience today?
